Because of its high hardness and excellent mechanical properties, diamond tools have become an indispensable and effective tool for processing all kinds of hard materials. There are two main factors that affect the service life and performance of diamond tools: one is the quality of diamond box itself (grade), the other is the adhesion of matrix metal to diamond (that is, the inlaying ability of matrix).
Due to the small size of diamond particles, most of diamond tools are either embedded in the tool body, or pressed and sintered with metal alloy by powder metallurgy method to form diamond metal complex, so as to realize the machining of workpiece. Due to the high interfacial energy between diamond and other metals and alloys, diamond particles are not easy to be infiltrated by ordinary low melting point alloys and have poor adhesion. Therefore, in the manufacturing of diamond tools, the diamond particles only rely on the mechanical force generated by the matrix condensation to embed in the matrix metal matrix, and do not form a strong chemical bond bonding, which leads to the diamond particles falling off when they are less than 1 / 2 of the particle size in addition to breaking and breaking. In fact, diamond only plays 20% of its working capacity. After diamond falls off, it is difficult to recycle, which greatly reduces the life and performance of diamond tools and causes huge waste. Therefore, it is of great significance to study the electroless metallization of diamond surface for improving the adhesion between diamond and matrix alloy, enhancing the compressive strength and oxidation resistance of diamond, improving the utilization rate of diamond and the service life of tools.
